Beausoleil Gets Death Sentence

LOS ANGELES, Jun. 15 – As the chief prosecution witness against him screamed, “Bobby’s not guilty,” Manson family member Robert Beausoleil today was denied a new trial and was sentenced formally to die in the gas chanter for the murder of musician Gary Hinman.

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge William R. Keene sentenced the 22-year-old Beausoleil to die.

The hearing for a new trial was interrupted when Mary Brunner, the chief prosecution witness against Beausoleil, who testified that he did kill the musician in his Topanga Canyon home last July, jumped to her feet in the rear of the courtroom and began shouting at the judge.

“Bobby isn’t guilty. I told you that Friday. I would have stuck with that if you hadn’t come up with your jackass statements…your silly legal deal.

“My lawyer told me to go along with you and you indicated I would be arrested for murder. You are a corruption of the Constitution.”

The straw-haired University of Wisconsin librarian and mother of a son fathered by hippie leader Charles Manson, was led away by sheriff’s deputies so Beausoleil could continue his arguments.

He argued unsuccessfully that witnesses, including Miss Brunner, were coerced into making statements.
