Manson Waits Fate, in Blast at Lawyers

LOS ANGELES, Jan. 21 – As the jury in the Tate-LaBianca murders trial began its sixth day of deliberating the fate of Charles Manson and his three girl followers, the cult leader today issued a press release from his jail cell calling lawyers in the case “educated morons and intellectual midgets.”

Manson, who has not been in the courtroom itself for the last month of the trial, issued the press release through his followers who have kept vigil on the corner outside the Los Angeles Hall of Justice, where the jury is deliberating.

“The judge hangs on a cross of public opinion, afraid to make a positive decision,” the release claimed, “and the courtroom is like unto an old, useless mannequin…smelling with lies, deceit and the strings of graft and corruption pulled by a useless politician hoisting himself into a higher seat.”

The cult chieftain, who has not been allowed to talk with newsmen, claimed that whatever the outcome of the “madness that you call a fair trial,” the public judgment of him is wrong.

“I am not the King of Jews nor am I a hippie cult leader. I sit in your torture chamber as I have always sat in your torture chamber. You have showed me no mercy, compassion or pity. And in my mind’s eye my thoughts light fires in your cities.

“Here’s what you are hiding from yourselves. Your days are in number and you’re afraid to look. Go to the children and ask for forgiveness as your days turn to nights.”
