Tate/Polanski Residence
10050 Cielo Drive

The current view of Los Angeles from just above Cielo Drive. Almost 34 years after the murders, a sullen presence still haunts the canyon. Click here for enlarged version.

Following the murders, the house went through several owners. The address was changed from 10050 to 10066. In the early 90's, Nine Inch Nail's frontman Trent Reznor rented the house and converted it into a mini recording studio. In 1994, the house was completely torn down and replaced by a large Mediterranean-style mansion named Villa Bella. Before the house was torn down, Reznor came back and removed the front door, which he put on his New Orleans recording studio. A Los Angeles store called You Have Bad Taste, sold pieces of sheetrock from the murder house for $2, with the proceeds going to an AIDS related charity. Villa Bella was originally listed at 12 million, but lack of interest has brought the price down to 7. It has been said that many real estate agents won't even touch the house. It is still vacant.
