Resume Hunt for Body at Spahn Ranch

CHATSWORTH, Dec. 12 – Detective Lt. Oliver Taylor of the Sheriff’s Homicide squad returned yesterday with 10 deputies to continue the search of the Chatsworth area ranch which once was the base for hippie cult leader Charles Manson’s hate-oriented band.

Taylor and his deputies presumably will continue to seek information as to the present whereabouts of Donald “Shorty” O’Shea, about 40, who had worked at the Spahn Movie Ranch, scene of the search, for several years.

O’Shea’s wife, still at the ranch, told deputies Wednesday she had not seen her husband for the last six or eight weeks, and apparently could not be more definite as to the date he was last at the ranch.

A car used by the missing ranch hand was discovered Tuesday parked near Independence Ave. and Gresham St. in Canoga Park. It was towed to an impound station operated for the Sheriff’s Dept. by the Calabasas Towing Service, 23523 Calabasas Road, Calabasas.

Detectives were reported to be, going over the auto with near microscopic detail, seeking some clue to O’Shea’s possible fate.

Taylor said yesterday morning the search at the ranch would be for “anything of evideneiary value” in the forthcoming trial of Manson and five others indicted in the Aug. 9 slaying of actress Sharon Tate and four others, and the killing Aug. 10 of market owner Leno LaBianca and his wife, Rosemary.

The deputies’ search Wednesday was centered around efforts to find O’Shea’s body in the wake of a tip that he had been decapitated and thrown into a well on the ranch property.

However, no bodies were discovered.
