Saturday, March 24th, 1973
LOS ANGELES, Mar. 24 – The fourth member of Charles Manson’s notorious family, convicted in a plot to get money and guns to free their cult leader from jail, was sentenced Friday to a prison term of 20 years to life.
In imposing the penalty on Lawrence Bailey, 23, Superior Court Judge Arthur L. Alarcon called him a “vicious criminal who has declared war against society.”
Bailey joined Kenneth Como, 32, Mary Brunner, 29, and Catherine Share, 30, in state prison. They were convicted of robbing a beer distributing firm and a surplus store in 1971, the second robbery ending in a gun battle with police.
