Manson Moved Off Death Row At San Quentin
Wednesday, August 30th, 1972
SAN QUENTIN, Aug. 30 — Charles Manson, hippie cult leader convicted of the Sharon Tate murders, has been moved out of Death Row to the “adjustment center” at San Quentin State Prison.
Officials said Manson was moved Tuesday night to the prison’s adjustment center, its maximum security section. If it is determined there is no threat to him from other prisoners he may be moved into the ‘main line,” according to Joseph R. O’Brien, prison information officer.
More than 100 Death Row inmates are gradually being reassigned following a court ban on the death penalty.
