Manson’s Associate Sentenced
Friday, June 30th, 1972
LOS ANGELES, Jun. 30 – Charles Lovett, a member of the clan of Charles Manson, yesterday was sentenced to prison for 10 years to life for his participation in a robbery which ended in a shootout with police in Hawthorne last August.
Superior Court Commissioner Michael Burke ordered the sentence for the 20-year-old defendant.
Five other defendants, also Manson family members who allegedly were involved in the incident, are scheduled for trial on July 31.
The robbery, which the prosecution claimed was an attempt to get guns, not money, occurred Aug. 20 at the Western Surplus Store, 13355 S. Hawthorne Blvd. Police arrested the suspects after a silent alarm went off.
