Manson ‘Kin’ Sentenced In 2 Robberies

LOS ANGELES, Mar. 22 – Manson family member Kenneth Como yesterday was sentenced to 15 years to life in state prison for the armed robberies of a Covina beer distributing firm and a Hawthorne surplus store.

Como was the second of four Manson family defendants to be sentenced for the August 1971 robberies.

The quartet was convicted by a jury last Feb. 21. The defendants were also found to be sane at the time of the offenses were committed.

Superior Court Judge Arthur L. Alarcon sentenced Como after refusing to grant a new trial.

To be sentenced later this week are Catherine Share 30 and Lawrence Bailey 23. Mary Brunner 29 was sentenced Thursday.

Cash was taken in both robberies. The defendants also attempted to steal 140 guns from the surplus store.

It was alleged during the trial that the guns were to be used to free Manson, who at the time was on trial for murder.

However, it will run consecutively with a 21 year to life sentence for another robbery term he was serving before his escape from County Jail prior to the 1971 robberies.
