LOS ANGELES, Jul. 9 — The trial of Charles “Tex” Watson, the fifth defendant in the Tate-LaBianca murder case, has been postponed until Aug. 2, it was learned yesterday.

The trial had been scheduled for July 19.

In another development, two more psychiatrists have been appointed to examine Watson 24.

Both the continuance and the appointment of two additional psychiatrists were granted last week by Superior Court Judge Adolph Alexander.

Defense attorney Sam Bubrick asked for the delay to have more time to prepare his case.

Dep. Dist. Atty. Vincent T. Bugliosi requested the two additional doctors in order for the prosecution to learn Watson’s mental condition.

Earlier, another judge initially appointed two psychiatrists to examine Watson but their reports are confidential and for the defense only.

The reports of the psychiatrists just appointed will be open to both the defense and the prosecution.

Watson has pleaded innocent and innocent by reason of insanity to a charge of conspiracy to commit murder and seven counts of murder in the 1969 Tate-LaBianca slayings.

Cult leader Charles Manson and three of his female followers have already been convicted and condemned to the gas chamber for the murders.

Watson was not tried with them because at the time of their trial he was fighting extradition from Texas.
