LOS ANGELES, Jul. 19 – Mary Brunner, 26, former University of Wisconsin librarian, will argue for her freedom from a murder charge in Superior Court Wednesday.

Miss Brunner, a member of a clan of young persons led by Charles Manson, the man accused as the ringleader in the slaying of actress Sharon Tate, was arraigned Thursday in the torture death of musician Gary Hinman.

The former Eau Claire, Wis., woman was granted immunity from prosecution after she testified against Robert Beausoleil, convicted and sentenced to death in Hinman’s slaying last July.

The district attorney’s office successfully sought a Grand Jury indictment against Miss Brunner after she denied her previous testimony during hearings for a new trial for Beausoleil.

A state spokesman said her immunity was valid only if she testified in all cases involving members of the Manson “family.”
