Bruce Davis Granted Parole for Fourth Time

Thursday, August 27th, 2015

Aug. 27 – The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation’s Board of Parole Hearings (BPH) issued a grant of parole today for convicted killer and former Charles Manson associate Bruce Davis. Davis, 72, appeared at today’s hearing at California Men’s Colony, his 30th before the board.

The suitability finding is subject to a 120-day decision review period. If the grant is finalized at the conclusion of decision review, the Governor may conduct an independent review of the decision. Under California law, the Governor has 30 days to reverse, modify, uphold, or take no action on the Board’s decision.

Davis was sent to state prison on April 21, 1972, with a life sentence from Los Angeles County for two counts of first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder and robbery. He was convicted for the July 25, 1969, murder of Gary Hinman and the murder of Donald “Shorty” Shea in August 1969.

At this point, the Parole Board has demonstrated that they are convinced Bruce is ready for parole once again. I wonder what has happened in the interim between the last parole recommendation and this one that could possibly change Gov Brown’s mind as to the suitability of Davis’s parole.
    This will be interesting.

Oh my gosh! When was that photo taken?

  3. Black Heart says:

Gov. Brown should parole the old con Davis and commute Leslie to time served. He might say something grandiose like: “With this action I end, in part, a half century nightmare.”

Brown could claim he decided to do so out of compassion, thus adding to his legacy, whatever that may be.

Moonbeam has zero risks in doing this since he has no political future remaining.

He can still help a lot of people in the LA area as a minister.

    He needs to be releASED.

  6. Western Auto says:

Keep him in jail. That is what society wants and deserves.

  7. Stephen Craig says:

I wonder what Shorty Shea would have to say about this? I mean, think about it: when does he come up for “parole”? Bruce Davis and the rest of those animals should die in jail. The fact that they weren’t executed years ago demonstrates how merciful our society can be. Letting him walk out the door a free man, whether he is 75 or 105 is simply outrageous, and an injustice to his victim…

I just read the transcript from Bruce Davis’s latest parole hearing, in which he was granted a release date. I don’t want to be unkind to Debra Tate at all. I don’t mean any disrespect, but her victim impact statement at Bruce Davis’s parole hearing was really weird. She was supposed to talk about how his crimes “impacted” victims and instead, she turned it into a thing about herself. If you read her impact statement, it’s full of “I’s” “Me’s” and everything else about her. She even mentioned her sister’s death. I truly don’t understand how this is legal. I can understand Gary Hinman’s cousin being present, but I will never get how Debra Tate is involved. Bruce Davis has nothing to do with her sister’s horrible murder. Also, Barbara Hoyt’s idiotic statement. She’s still arguing about Shorty being killed at night, because she saw a full moon and heard screams. Ludicrous! What does his time of death have to do with anything? She is nuts and has involved herself into this horrible tragedy more & more.

  9. Ramjam says:

I’m sick of Barbra Hoyts insistence of when she supposedly heard these screams. I thought she was deemed an unreliable witness multiple times. And Tate is just transparent. Just plain transparent.

  10. Larry Feigh says:

When Gary Hinman and Shorty Shea emerge from their graves alive( e.g Lazarus) as if nothing happened to them, then I would favor parole for Davis.
