Dec. 18 – In part two of the December 30, 1969 Ruth Ann Moorehouse interview, Ruth tells Sergeants Phillip Sartuche and Michael Nielsen about what it’s like to take acid, ego death, and people’s hang-ups. The three discuss Catherine “Gypsy” Share and how she wants to lose weight, the desire for more babies in the family, and Ruth’s plans to move to Minnesota when she gets out of jail. Ruth again asks about Sherry Cooper and whether the detectives know if she’s alive or not.

The most poignant part of these interviews was when the detectives told her that one day when she was older she would regret the actions of the Family. I wonder if they were right or she’s just keeping a low profile to avoid retribution from the public.

I agree, that’s a very interesting exchange to listen to 40 plus years later. I’m sure his prediction came true.

Thank you CD for these interviews. I agree regarding the comment the Detective makes about Ruth Ann looking back one day. You can hear the tone in his voice that he has seen this before.

I always wondered if that bus driver she married for a day and then split from ever knew what became of Ruth Ann vis a vi the Manson connection. I can hear his pals asking him, ‘remember when you married that girl for a day….’ Talk about dodging a bullet.

I also thought about the influence her father Dean had on her to include any possible molestation issues. Has anyone heard about what became of her siblings? Did they go astray like Ruth Ann?

The little girl voice she uses when talking with the detectives makes what she says more chilling. Her way of speaking reminds me of those Canadian interviews of Sherri Cooper (with Danny DeCarlo).

What was she saying about Snake in the beginning of the interview? When I have time Im going to thoroughly listen with headphones so I can hear better.

Also, for anybody that is confused. Ruth Ann is using the name Rachel Morse at the time of this interview. That is why Sartuche keeps calling her Rachel.

Ruth also testified before the LA County Grand Jury earlier that month using the name Rachel Morse

I was reading through that transcript link Cielo Drive provided. I gotta admit the description of her attorney is too damn funny. He sure must have been ribbed about that for a long time…btw, a Ruth Ann ‘uh huh’ = ‘yes’

“Q: Do you have an attorney, Mrs. Morse?
    A: Yes.
    Q: What is his name?
    A: I don’t know.
Q: Did he come to visit you in the Los Angeles County Jail?
    A: Yes.
Q: Could you describe him for us so that we might try to guess who he is?
    A: He is fat.
    Q: Big and fat?
    A: Uh-huh.
Q: Is he also the same attorney that talked to Gipsy?
    A: Yes.”

And can you tell that is Mr Aaron Stovitz who is questioning Ruth Ann? He must have had a lot of fun with that exchange.

  6. Poirot says:

She committed purjury in front of a grand jury when she used an alias.

  7. Laurel says:

I thought the men interviewing her were too nice to her. She deserved to be punched in the head for acting like an innocent little “Lolita.” They should of put a big, ugly bull-dyke cop in with her, to scare her.

  8. lauren says:

Too bad there isnt the interview with Detective Gutierez where he threatens Ruth with the gas chamber.. that would have been crazy to listen to.

  9. Joergie says:

This is so so fascinating thanks for posting the audio here. I will have to find the transcripts to clear up some parts that I couldn’t understand.

She seems, despite playing the cops, whom I am sure know they are being played, so smart , so confident and strong. Maybe she is enjoying to turn the tables on men instead of being their victim (i.e. Charlie, and her father). Yet it puzzles as to why she would let Charlie control her. Of course maybe she is just playing the little girl cutsey game to get the hell out of there, I certinly would have. Again thanks for the fascinating archive.

  10. Yuma Momsen says:

Thankyou for uploading! Also where can you get the transcripts for this?

  11. Jesse says:

Someone mentioned the possibility of her dad Dean molesting her. I don’t know about that, but Dean did get caught messing with very young girls (12-14?) and did time in the joint.
